Antenatal Doula

* anxious about the birth and need some extra support and reassurance
* having a difficult pregnancy - health problems with you or your baby
* new to the UK and our healthcare system
* lacking support - no family or partner to rely on
* just wanting some quality time to really talk through how you are feeing about everything

An antenatal doula can provide all this support, and it is always specifically tailored to what you need and want.

Sometimes our role will be just to lend a listening ear and companionship, particularly if you are new to the area or isolated either at home or in hospital. Other times, we might give support by providing information and details of local organisations and groups that may be of interest and support you to get involved if required.

An antenatal doula can help you to prepare for the birth, through being there to listen to your worries and concerns, help you refocus them and if necessary, support you to get other professionals involved in order to get the support you need. An antenatal doula can support you to relax and learn to be confident about the upcoming birth.

An antenatal doula can give practical help. For mums-to-be who are bed bound or very ill through pregnancy, this services takes away the daily stresses, and lets them look after themselves and their unborn baby. We are happy to take on light housework, shopping, childcare and run occasional errands where necessary.

Antenatal Doula support can be booked very flexibly. It can be a one off, or a regular booking. It costs £18 per hour and in most cases this is an all-inclusive fee, although if you live a significant distance from our base in PE8 we may need to charge you a nominal travel expense fee. You can rest assured that booking a doula through Bump, Birth and Beyond means you will be in safe hands. Our doulas are women who have experienced labour and childbirth, have attended as a doula at (at least) two births already, and hold an Antenatal, Birth and Postnatal Doula Certificate from the University of Middlesex. All doulas have a CRB enhanced check which clears them for working with vulnerable adults and children, and are fully insured.
